Trekking Tour in the Himalaya (1996)

From March 1997 to April 1997, we made a trekking tour into the Himalayan mountains (together with Christine and Massimo (the sister of Karin and her friend)) and friends in Karlsruhe.

We were a group of six people. We started in Katmandu and hiked from Lukla (2800 m) in the direction of the Mount Everest. We reached Lukla with a Russian military helicopter.

The highest point of our trip was 4500 m and we were about 8 km away from the Mount Everest, which is the highest mountain of the world. It was a very exciting tour.

Finally, we were for 10 days in the Kingdom of Buthan. Buthan was very expensive. For each day, we had to pay USD 200 per person (USD 400 for both of us). All in all, it was a four weeks trip. After that, we had more than eight weeks trouble with a severe cold, etc. The reason was the extremely cold air in the elevation of 4000 m and higher.

The first picture shows the mountains from Teng Bodge. The second picture shows the 8000 m high mountains close to Periche (4200 m). Periche is two days away from the Mount Everest Base Camp. In our view, Periche was a horrible place. It was cold, a snow storm came up and the lodge was very bad.

The third picture shows the more than 8000m high mountains close to Peng Bodge. Mount Everest is in the middle of the picture.

We hired Sherpas, a cook, kitchen boys and people for our luggage. Nine people were with us on a ten days trip.

Important Notice

There is one thing, that we have to mention. You must have a good condition to hike in the high elevation of 4000m and more. You have to make a good training of your body!
